Cats are actually able to communicate with each other in 3 different ways.
Body language
This is a basic tool of cats that even humans understand. The way a cat stands, sleeps or moves around indicates its emotions and moods.
First of all, you should pay attention to the tail. Standing upright signals a friendly disposition. Waving the tail from one side to the other indicates an expression of curiosity or aggression, it depends on the speed and intensity of movement. If the animal has fluffed up its tail and its fur stands up, then it feels threatened.
Tailed animals use the following ways to express sympathy for other animals:
nose-to-nose contact;
rubbing against each other;
licking the top of another animal’s head.
Vocalization
This method involves meowing, purring and hissing. In general, cats understand each other perfectly well by smell, look and movement. However, sometimes they resort to vocalization to reinforce an emotion.
For example, intense meowing indicates fright or anxiety. Less loud purring and meowing indicate relaxation, hissing indicates anger.
