The main problem is the toxic substances contained in the lunar regolith. To solve this problem, experts used the help of fungi and worms. The former absorb heavy metals, while the latter participate in the biological decomposition of organic materials and soil improvement.

Experiments showed that plants grown on lunar soil with the addition of fungi and worms showed better survival results.
