Fish farms that were supposed to boost wild salmon numbers are killing them off

The scientists based their work on studies conducted over a 50-year period from 1971 to 2021. In total, they reviewed 206 papers, of which about 80% showed a negative effect of breeding programs on wild representatives of salmonids. Of the 3% that had a positive contribution to wild populations, most farms were filled with wild fish that were bred and released to boost severely declining populations.
